Shaping the stool legs
- Cut three or four boards for the legs. Typical dimensions are about 2 inches square and 18 to 22 inches in length.
- Carve the overall shape. Typical stool legs should be thicker on top than on the bottom.
- Carve the tennon to match the mortises drilled into the seat top.
- Cut a wedge slot in each tennon. For maximum strength ensure that the wedge slot runs with the grain.
- Carve a wedge for each leg.
