What I think I've learned

Printer-friendly version

Now that I'm on the downhill run, it seems appropriate to sort out what I think I've learned along the way. It's not much so far, but here it is in no particular order:

  1. Spend time in the wilds (or what's left of them).
  2. Remember names.
  3. Don't assume bad intentions when perfectly normal incompetence is a reasonable explanation.
  4. Clean up.
  5. Enjoy the moment. (It's all moments.)
  6. Garden.
  7. First things first.
  8. Read books.
  9. Don't confuse novelty for change.
  10. Eat good food, mostly plants.
  11. Keep moving.
  12. Go to bed early; get up early.
  13. Work with the flow.
  14. Don't gossip.
  15. Resist comforting illusions.
  16. Be kind.
  17. Speak the truth or be silent.
  18. Share credit; accept mistakes.
  19. Avoid extremes.
  20. Honor the past; remember the future.
  21. Plant trees.
  22. Finish what you start.
  23. Live in another country long enough to become a foreigner in your own.
  24. It's better to do what you think is right and be wrong than to do what you think is wrong and be right.
  25. Relax, enjoy, good bye...
